Rix Road Early Learning Centre is a new 1350m2 community facility constructed on a green-field site in the growing Melbourne suburb of Officer. This significant community project comprises four (4) program rooms & community room spaces together with five (5) consultation rooms, staff planning spaces & associated areas.
Educational planning has been designed for flexibility & interconnectivity with the outside environment. All four activity rooms have the flexibility to open to the other while positioned to maximise northern aspect & connect to the outside environment. An internal courtyard splices through the building driving the projects exemplary ESD performance & connection with nature.
The building is intended to embed itself into a child’s imagination. At its edges the building is draped with a fluted castle-like timber screen interspersed with a series of arches that peel open for entrance-ways & portal openings to the spaces within.
